2 minutes and 30 seconds of a rolling drum beat, gruff guitars and rough vocals blasting out the speakers of an early nineties stereo. That’s the sound of 51 BLACK SUPER. 11 songs and just 30 minutes to cross the USA, from the Californian home of Weezer and Pavement, to The Raspberries’ or Guided By Voices’ Ohio. 51 BLACK SUPER is straight forward and down to the point. Written and recorded in the urgency of short and intense sessions, this first album reflects the state of mind of its band members : spontaneous and eager to tear it up. ‘Sounds like the Strokes with less cocaine and more facial hair’ a Californian rock critic once said upon first listen. Then he added: ‘A big compliment’, just to make sure.
Earlier this year, Thee Oh Sees released a new album called A Weird Exits. Now, they’ve announced its companion album. It’s called An Odd Entrances, and it’s out November 18 via Castle Face. Half of the profits from the album’s first pressing will be donated to Elizabeth House, a charity in Pasadena that helps homeless women with children from the San Gabriel Valley. Listen to a new track from the album, “The Poem,” below. Scroll down for the cover artwork and full tracklist, as well as Thee Oh Sees’ upcoming tour dates.
